WORK @ THE TEXAS NEWSROOM NPR and its member stations have created an innovative new system of regional news hubs designed to reshape the journalism landscape — and the prototype for the nation is in Texas.
The Texas Newsroom is a collaboration between the Texas stations and NPR. The managing stations are KUT in Austin, KERA in Dallas, Houston Public Media and Texas Public Radio in San Antonio. Texas is a great state for journalism. It is a huge, multi-culture, multi-ethnic expanse of land and people, with as many distinct identities and regions as most countries. As a border state, one of the fastest growing states in the country, and the second largest economy in the United States, what happens in Texas is often national – and sometimes international – news. The Audience Editor is a new position created as part of The Texas Newsroom’s digital ambition. It’s an exciting opportunity to help expand the reach of a thriving collaboration that tells stories from across the state, and to bring valuable public-service journalism to local communities in all corners of Texas. The Audience Editor will develop strategies to help The Texas Newsroom connect with audiences we are not reaching and better listen to communities of color and younger Texans. The editor will create scalable solutions across multiple platforms – such as newsletters, social media and websites – to share with stations around the state. This position will be employed by KERA, based in Dallas, but is 100% remote and can be located anywhere in Texas. Please include a cover letter indicating why you’re excited about joining The Texas Newsroom’s team.
