City Council is expected to soon approve the purchase of a new 2024 Ford F-250 SRW from Liberty Ford.

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio -- City Council is expected to soon approve the purchase of a new 2024 Ford F-250 SRW from Liberty Ford. The impetus behind the $62,589 expenditure, which is coming out of the recreation fund, is to provide the recreation department with a reliable vehicle to transport sports equipment, park supplies, haul trash and assist in snow removal and general grounds maintenance at the Gemini Center.

“We’re expanding our role into more of a traditional parks and recreation department versus just a recreation department,” Fairview Park Recreation Director Kerry Kemp said. “We’re looking at re-shifting, reorganizing some of the responsibilities within the city to better accommodate our residents. We need a vehicle to be able to haul trash, move sports equipment and go to parks to clean the restrooms.”The recreation department currently uses an outdated and nearly dilapidated service department truck to perform daily tasks. Kemp said the new F-250 was selected due to being the smallest model that allows for a snow plow package. “One of the things that the city is looking to do is increasing our versatility, meaning we want to make sure any trucks so we get from here on out have plow packages on them if needed,” he said. That includes going forward performing snowplowing duties as a department at the Gemini Center while the recreation director said the service department takes care of roads and other parking lots. What remains to be seen is how a change in recreation department duties affects the hiring of staff members being asked to perform an expanded set of duties.“We’re always hiring folks to do different tasks around our department -- maintenance, custodial-type things -- so transitioning them into more park roles when necessary.” If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.and agree that your clicks, interactions, and personal information may be collected, recorded, and/or stored by us and social media and other third-party partners in accordance with our
