Geena Davis Sequel Ideas for The Fly and A League of Their Own Film

Geena Davis, an Oscar winning actress, shares her ideas for follow-ups to The Fly and A League of Their Own, her most iconic films.

Geena Davis has some good ideas for sequels to some of her most classic films. Davis has had a prolific and award-winning acting career that has included an Oscar win for The Accidental Tourist.

Many of her most iconic roles came in the '80s and '90s, notably including The Fly and A League of Their Own. The former has since become a David Cronenberg body horror classic, while the latter remains an iconic woman-led sports movie. In an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan for The Boroughs, Davis reveals her sequel ideas for The Fly and A League of Their Own.

Davis mentioned that she would love to play many of her past roles again, but particularly had good ideas for follow-ups to these two films. She"had an idea for a sequel to The Fly called Flies" as well as a baseball movie legacy sequel, A Little League of Their Own.

Check out the full quote from Davis below: ScreenRant: Is there a character that you've played that just itches in the back of your head that you're like,"I want to play them again someday.

" Geena Davis: Every character I've ever played. Every movie I've done, I want to do a sequel. Except Thelma & Louise, because... come on! But I love my characters.

I had an idea for a sequel to The Fly called Flies. It was a very good idea. I had an idea for a sequel to A League of Their Own, which is A Little League of Their Own. So that's all I think about.

Davis did not go into detail regarding the plot of either prospective sequel films, but they certainly sound like they could be intriguing. Flies would seem to multiply the problem of the man-turned-insect in the 1986 classic. Regardless of plot specifics, this could be an opportunity to amplify the body horror as compared to the previous films. This is not an unheard of approach when it comes to legacy sequels, either.

After finding success with the 1996 cult classic Twister, the legacy sequel team went with a simple titling approach: Twisters. This 2024 follow-up had little to do with the characters of the original, but rather put storm chasers in a similarly sticky situation, but with bigger storms and a higher number of these windy weather events.

As for A Little League of Their Own, this title would seem to suggest a legacy sequel that focuses on the children or grandchildren of the main characters in the '90s original. This has been an approach used by other sequel films, including the 2010 Meet the Parents threequel Little Fockers. A League of Their Own has also already gotten some sequel-esque love over the years.

It got a sitcom adaptation in the year immediately following its theatrical release, and a more recent adaptation with the 2022 Prime Video series of the same name. Given this sustained, it seems people might be receptive to A League of Their Own getting a legacy sequel. The Fly's sequel The Fly II was far worse received, but it may also be time for that horror classic to see the light of day again.

Davis did not comment on the likelihood of either sequel, but it is nonetheless exciting to hear that she has had some interesting ideas floating around.
