Methodist Healthcare System swept the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings this year, with one hospital named the best in San Antonio and two others recognized for exceptional care in specialty areas.
Methodist Hospital was named the top hospital in San Antonio for high performance in the following care specialities: Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma Colon cancer surgery Prostate cancer surgery Heart attack Aortic valve surgery Heart failure Transcatheter aortic valve replacement Kidney failure Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease To earn the distinction of 'best,' hospitals must go above and beyond when it comes to nursing, clinical outcomes and patient experience, according to a release from Methodist Healthcare. The publication uses Medicare and Medicaid data on patient outcomes to determine its top hospitals. 'This award is a reflection of the excellent work done by our physicians, staff, and care teams,' said Ryan Simpson, CEO of Methodist Hospital. Also recognized were Methodist Hospital Stone Oak — for care in heart failure, heart attack, kidney failure and stroke — and Methodist Hospital Hill Country for knee replacements. Only 160 hospitals of about 5,000 nationwide that the publication analyzed ranked in one of the specialties, according to the release. Nationwide honors Only one Texas hospital, in Houston, made the publication's nationwide, 20-member 'Honor Roll' for best hospitals.
