Two Pennsylvania State Representatives are looking to help Pittsburgh Steelers fans who want to watch their team play, but are out of the coverage zone. Dauphin County lawmakers Dave Madsen and Justin Fleming have written a resolution that would call for fan input on where Steelers games are broadcast.
Right now, the FCC leaves coverage decisions up to the NFL based on several factors, with geography usually playing the biggest role. Those lawmakers are now saying fan demand for the Steelers is much higher than the Baltimore Ravens', which is the current secondary team in this market. "You have so many more Steelers fans that outnumber Ravens fans here because they're a newer franchise," said Representative Justin Fleming. "The Steelers have been around since 1933. The NFL could solve this problem and fix it if they would just allow this to be a secondary market for the Steelers." Both representatives hope their proposed resolution will pave the way for stronger fan input moving forward.
