Police say a driver followed victims in Mount Prospect for seven miles and pointed a gun with red laser at their car.

As a Jeep followed them for seven miles, the victims drove to the Mount Prospect Police station to report the incident.A suburban man was facing multiple felonies in an incident stemming from road rage, with police saying he followed a car for miles, nearly crashing into it at times and pointed a gun with a laser at it before the scene finally came to an end outside a police department.

The incident unfolded Sunday, March 22, when two people drove to the Mount Prospect Police Station and told officers they'd been followed for seven miles by a blue-colored Jeep SUV that had been driving aggressively behind them.According to police, the two victims said they first noticed the driver of the Jeep, later identified as 38-year--old Edwin C. Laguna, of Wheeling, was gesturing towards them and possibly flashing gang signs. As the Jeep followed them, the victims said they saw a red laser coming from the Jeep and pointed at their car. According to police, the victims said the laser pointed at them multiple times as they saw the driver hold something in his hand. The Jeep also quickly accelerated towards their car at times, police said, stopping just before crashing into them. As the victims drove westbound on Kensington Road towards the police station, the Jeep stopped following behind, police said. Officers then used automatic license plate recognition cameras to track the Jeep to the 500 block of Dogwood Lane, with three people inside. While speaking with the Jeep's occupants, police saw open alcohol containers inside and conducted a search. In addition to open alcoholic beverages, police also discovered a handgun with a red laser attachment, a possible controlled substance, drug paraphernalia inside. Officers then took all three occupants of the Jeep into custody and transported them to police headquarters. Following an investigation, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved multiple charges for Laguna, including counts of armed violence, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and unlawful possession and delivery of a controlled substance. Laguna was also charged with aggravated driving with a revoked license, aggravated assault using a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct. According to police, the other two passengers of the Jeep were each charged with one petty offense of Transportation of Open Alcohol, and were released from custody.“The swift and decisive action taken by our officers during this incident removed a dangerous weapon and a violent offender from our community,” Deputy Police Chief Bart Tweedie in a release. “We will continue to prioritize the arrest of those who choose to endanger our residents, ensuring violent felons are held accountable for their actions and that our neighborhoods remain safe,” he added.
