Connecticut authorities are investigating the murder of a firefighter by a man who broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home to find him in her bed
After breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home and finding another man with her in bed, an armed 41-year-old Connecticut man opened fire, killing a decorated and beloved fireman, police confirmed to Us Weekly.
Cramer, 41, was shot to death early on the morning of Saturday, March 28, allegedly by Jabari Bush, who forced his way into his ex's Stratford residence just before 2 a.m. The woman has not been identified, but she did speak to police and said she woke up to a man in her bedroom, later identified as Bush, who screamed, “You’re here with another man,” CBS News reported, citing an affidavit in the case.It was unclear if the woman sustained any injuries. The woman said she saw “sparks” before Cramer yelled, “I just got shot,' reported CBS News. First responders arrived to find Cramer — who was nearing 10 years of service for the city — clinging to life on the floor, bleeding from a gunshot wound to the right thigh. Despite their best efforts, EMTs could not stabilize the fireman and pronounced him dead at the scene. The woman told police Bush had trouble moving on after their breakup, sending her harassing texts and showing up at her job two days before the murder. Bush was arrested at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday following a brief police pursuit, according to the Stratford Police Department. Bush has been charged with murder, home invasion, criminal possession of a firearm and illegal discharge of a firearm in connection. 'Everyone counted on him, relied on him to show up, especially during the fire,' Bridgeport's Assistant Fire Chief Armando Cora said after the arraignment, according to ABC 7. 'I remember seeing him at a couple of fires where he was a nozzleman and just fearless. Going in, doing his job and doing what was expected of him.' 'If you didn't know him, you wanted to know him, when you got to know him, you wanted to emulate his qualities — his humility, his friendliness, he never did not have a smile on his face,' said Bridgeport Fire Dept. Lt. Christian A. Teague. Cramer had two young sons. Flags across Bridgeport were ordered to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Bush's dedication to the city.
