CBS News has found that at least 15 files related to the Jeffrey Epstein case have disappeared from the Justice Department website. The missing files include photos of Bill Clinton, the Pope, Donald Trump, and images from Epstein's residences. The absence of these documents raises concerns about the transparency of the document release and the handling of sensitive information related to Epstein's crimes.

CBS News has discovered that at least 15 files, released by the Justice Department on Friday concerning convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein , were no longer accessible on the department's website by Saturday. CBS News had downloaded the complete set of documents on Friday, enabling a direct comparison with the files available on Saturday. The reason for the disappearance of these files remains unclear, and CBS News has reached out to the Justice Department for comment.

The missing files included a range of sensitive content, such as images of framed photographs displayed on a credenza desk. These photos depicted former President Bill Clinton and a picture of the Pope. One open drawer in the images revealed a photo of President Trump alongside Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Other files missing from the initial release contained photos of a room featuring what appeared to be a massage table, as well as nude photos and paintings. This situation has intensified existing concerns surrounding the Justice Department's highly anticipated document release. The tens of thousands of pages released to the public have provided limited new insights into Epstein's crimes or the prosecutorial decisions that permitted him to avoid significant federal charges for years. The released documents also omitted some of the most closely watched materials, including FBI interviews with victims and internal Justice Department memos related to charging decisions. Some of the most significant records concerning Epstein are entirely absent from the Justice Department's initial disclosures, which cover tens of thousands of pages. Missing are critical documents such as FBI interviews with survivors and internal Justice Department memos analyzing charging decisions. These documents could have offered clarity on how investigators assessed the case and why Epstein was allowed, in 2008, to plead guilty to a relatively minor state-level prostitution charge. The records, mandated for release by a recent congressional law, have largely omitted references to several powerful figures who were long associated with Epstein, including Britain's former Prince Andrew. This has raised further questions about who was scrutinized, who was not, and the extent to which the disclosures truly enhance public accountability. Among the new information released was some insight into the Justice Department's decision to abandon an investigation into Epstein in the 2000s, which ultimately allowed him to plead guilty to the state-level charge. There was also a previously unseen 1996 complaint accusing Epstein of stealing photographs of children. The initial releases have predominantly featured images of Epstein's homes in New York City and the U.S. Virgin Islands, including some photographs of celebrities and politicians. There was a series of previously unseen photos of Clinton, but fewer of Mr. Trump. Both have had associations with Epstein, but both have since distanced themselves from those relationships. Neither has been accused of any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein, and there is no indication that the photos played any role in the criminal cases brought against him. Despite the Friday deadline set by Congress for the complete public release of the documents, the Justice Department stated that it plans to release the records on a rolling basis. The department attributed the delay to the time-consuming process of redacting the names of survivors and other identifying information. The department has not provided any specific date or timeframe for the release of further records
