Samuel Saxon, 47, faces both state and federal charges now following a domestic violence arrest
and lying about it to a federal agent will stay behind bars in solitary confinement following a lengthy detention hearing Monday in Cincinnati federal court. Samuel Saxon , 47, of Corryville, pleaded not guilty to one count of making false statements to a federal officer who is investigating felonious assault , domestic violence and strangulation charges against Saxon from a Dec.
5 incident. threatening language, mental health concerns and substance abuse allegations were all presented during the hearing.Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Garcia showed video clips and read police and medical reports aloud from previous incidents involving Saxon and the victim in court. According to Garcia, the victim, who is not a U.S. citizen, was 18 years old when she met Saxon, who was 40 at the time. The pair have been together for nearly eight years, and she has been financially dependent on him. Prosecutors presented evidence that dates back to 2020, when Saxon and the woman lived together in San Diego.“You stupid f****** b****,”Saxon found holding knife to his neck: Feds The video was taken by the victim and obtained through a search warrant from a previous domestic violence report, according to Garcia. In 2022, Saxon’s mental health became a concern after his supervisor at ICE in San Diego thought he was suicidal, according to Garcia. On Sept. 12, 2022, Saxon’s boss called police to do a welfare check on him after he did not show up for work and did not contact anyone for 16 hours, prosecutors said. A police report indicates that Saxon did not answer the door after officers knocked and announced themselves several times. Using a key given to them by maintenance, officers entered the apartment where they found Saxon naked on the toilet holding a knife to his own neck, Garcia read from the police report. They were eventually able to de-escalate the situation, and the officers left without incident, Garcia said. When the pair moved to Cincinnati, calls for police and EMS continued. Garcia says 911 has been called on them at least 22 times by neighbors and the victim.Prosecutors played another video of him yelling through the ceiling at his landlord.“Don’t have your Central Americans come down here again and try to open my door,”In November 2024, the victim took a video of Saxon allegedly spraying her with soap while he called her aSamuel Saxon, 47, is accused of lying to a U.S. Department of Homeland Security investigator during an internal affairs inquiryIn addition to the verbal abuse, the woman is also a victim of physical abuse, based on the medical reports read by prosecutors.Emergency crews found her and transported her to the hospital, where she was admitted to the surgical care unit.“Doctors said she could’ve become permanently disabled or dead,” Garcia told the court.EMTs responded to another call in August 2025, where they reported that the victim looked “emaciated” and “anorexic.”Prosecutors believe that Saxon’s alleged behaviors may be linked to alcohol abuse. As part of his sentence, he was required to complete AA, which he allegedly calledProsecutors also said that when they spoke to Saxon’s current supervisor at ICE, he described him as having a bad temper and will “go off” for no reason. This is a complex situation: Public defender Zenaida Lockard, Saxon’s public defender, argued that the detention hearing is regarding allegations of false statements made to a federal agent, not the alleged domestic violence case.According to an incident report reviewed by Lockard, Saxon appeared concerned and called 911 when the victim was found standing on the edge of a balcony, threatening to jump. The victim has also allegedly made several calls to 911 asking police to escort Saxon out of their apartment. In another call with dispatchers, Lockard said the victim is heard in the background saying,The woman has also been charged in Baltimore in 2020 for public drunkenness, vandalism, falsification and other charges, the defense said. Additionally, Lockard says Saxon has a previous diagnosis of major depressive disorder, but was never recommended any sort of treatment. The defense reached out to the woman following the Dec. 5 incident at their apartment complex to ask how she felt about Saxon’s potential release. While locked up in the Hamilton County Justice Center, Saxon reported that he was jumped. Corrections officers moved him into isolation for his safety. After hearing from both sides, U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Karen Litkovitz determined Saxon would remain at the Butler County Jail due to the pattern of violence and his lack of trustworthiness. “This is a violent individual,” Judge Litkovitz said, in part, noting that the defendant is heard on video threatening to kill the woman. If convicted of the federal crime, he could face up to five years in prison with three years of supervision post-release and pay a $250,000 fine. He could also be sentenced to decades in jail if convicted of all charges in his Hamilton County case. His state case, however, is now on hold, until the federal case is resolved, according to Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Alan Triggs. “It is standard practice when a defendant has both federal and state charges,” Triggs tells FOX19 NOW.He confirms he issued a bench warrant Monday for Saxon, so Saxon will be returned to the Hamilton County jail as soon as that happens, and the state case can proceed.
