A fan-made mod, Dawn Over Kovir, has been launched for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, adding a brand-new questline for Ciri while the third official DLC for The Witcher 3 remains unconfirmed. The mod is inspired by the cinematic reveal trailer for The Witcher IV and aims to delve deeper into Ciri's anger and humanity.
Since The Witcher IV was first announced back in 2024, rumors have been circulating over a potential third DLC for its predecessor, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt .
Whilst the 2015 RPG already boasts two critically acclaimed DLCs: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, rumors suggest that the third DLC will help bridge the gap between the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and The Witcher IV, especially shedding some light on why Ciri has taken up Geralt's mantle. At the time of writing, a third official DLC has not been confirmed by CD Projekt RED, whilst development for The Witcher IV continues to stay on track.
However, in the meantime, one fan seemingly has things covered with the launch of The Witcher 3: Dawn Over Kovir. First uploaded to Nexus Mods back in February, Dawn Over Kovir is a free-to-download mod for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that adds a brand-new questline for Ciri to embark on, as well as the addition of a new region: the Kingdom of Kovir and Poviss.
Inspired by the cinematic reveal trailer for The Witcher IV, this mod's description reads as follows: Fight. Make moral choices. Accept the consequences. Dawn over Kovir is a fan-made questline expansion for The Witcher 3, focused on Ciri after the events of the main game.
While hunting monsters, the witcheress increasingly finds monsters not in forests, but among people. Disappointed in humanity, she balances between compassion and rage. Will Ciri be able to control her anger — or will she become a monster herself?
We have previously reported on The Witcher 3: Dawn Over Kovir, but it seems as though its developer, Fandera, is far from finished with the mod as they have recently revealed that they are currently working on a 2.0 version of the game. Dawn Over Kovir is currently available in Version 0.9.1, but Fandera aims to completely skip over Version 1.0 in favor of 2.0, and the roadmap they have shared looks pretty impressive.
In the roadmap, which spans from May 2026 to March 2027, we can see all that Fandera has planned for this expansive DLC, including simple polishing and stabilization of the current mod, to the addition of a new storyline, expansion of the brand-new region, new combat mechanics, new monster encounters, localization and voice-overs, and quest, scene and dialogue design. Put simply, this is a mammoth task and Fandera makes it clear that some of these plans will only come to fruition"if technically feasible".

However, if they do manage to achieve all that they set out to do, this will turn a simple mod into a fully-fledged expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and will for the perfect way to unofficially bridge the gap between the events of the 2015 hit and the upcoming The Witcher IV. 9/10 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Like Follow Followed RPG Action Adventure Systems OpenCritic Reviews Top Critic Avg: 93/100 Critics Rec: 95% Released May 19, 2015 ESRB M for Mature: Use of Alcohol, Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content Developer CD Projekt Red Publisher CD Projekt Red Engine REDengine 3 Cross-Platform Play yes Cross Save yes Expansions The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone, The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine Franchise The Witcher Genre RPG, Action, Adventure Powered by Expand Collapse
