BART is saying that service cannot begin Friday morning and no trains are running because of a computer equipment problem after network upgrade work.BART is saying that no trains are running Friday morning because of a computer equipment problem.
The transit agency says the issue is happening after network upgrade work, but riders have been arriving at stations frustrated that there is no train service. BART spokesperson Alicia Trost speaks with ABC7 News on why service is shut down Friday morning and options for commuters as they work to get trains running again. They did not provide an estimated time service may return and they're asking commuters to seek alternate transportation. Muni says they will provide updates on if any of their routes are impacted because of the BART shutdown. Spokesperson Alicia Trost says that once they are able to reboot the system, it will take at least an hour for trains to start running. "One of the reasons why we don't have service is cause we were actually upgrading our computer network last night," Trost said. "It's a massive ongoing project. We don't just work on it one night a week. And so that is part of rebuilding BART, which is part of being a 50-plus-year-old system. It's unfortunate -- absolutely. We're gonna find out what went wrong."Last week on August 29, some riders were stranded and re-routed after smoke filled the Transbay Tube when officials say brakes overheated.because of an issue with its computer system. BART officials say that outage impacted 40,000 commuters.Stay with ABC7 News for updates on this developing story.
