Hoda Kotb, the retired anchor who has been filling in for Guthrie, announced the news Friday morning. Guthrie's co-anchor, Craig Melvin, added, “It’s where she belongs. It’s where we all want her to be.”, Guthrie opened up about her decision to come back, saying returning is “part of my purpose now.” She admitted she isn’t sure if she’s ready, but “would like to try.” “It’s hard to imagine doing it because it’s such a place of joy and lightness, and I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not,” Guthrie said. “But I can’t not come back, because it’s my family. I think it’s part of my purpose right now.” “I want to smile. And when I do, it will be real,” she continued. “I will have joy. And my joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer. And being there is joyful. And when it’s not, I’ll say so. And I have been so grateful to have this family. I consider this my family, my greater family.” Guthrie expanded on her decision to return by saying that "when times are hard, you want to be with your family." Nancy Guthrie went missing in the early morning hours of Feb. 1. Nearly eight weeks later, there are few leads, and authorities have not named a suspect. The family has continued to plead for her return, offering a $1 million reward for information.of her tearful interview, Guthrie described the heartbreak of her mother’s disappearance and raised the possibility that her mother may have been targeted because of her public profile."I don’t know that it’s because she’s my mom and somebody thought, 'Oh, that girl, that lady has money. We can make a quick buck.' I mean, that would make sense. But we don’t know, which is too much to bear, to think that I brought this to her bedside.
