Savannah Guthrie says that her brother believed from the beginning that their missing mother Nancy Guthrie was “kidnapped for ransom” after her initial disappearance overnight on Jan. 31. In her first interview since police said Nancy was taken from her home against her will, Savannah told Hoda Kotb that her brother, Camron, who she says was a fighter pilot in the military, “saw very clearly right away, what this was.

” “And even on the phone when I called him, he knew,” the TODAY co-anchor said. “He said, ‘I think she’s been kidnapped for ransom,’” Savannah added. “And I said, ‘What? Well, why? What?’ And then — I mean, it sounds so, like, how dumb could I be? But I just, I didn’t wanna believe. I just said, ‘Do you think because of me?’ And he said, ‘I’m sorry, sweetie, but yeah, maybe.’” The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have not confirmed the circumstances of Nancy’s disappearance. In an interview with NBC News’ Liz Kreutz in March, Sheriff Chris Nanos addressed whether he believes the attack may have been targeted. “We believe we know why he did this, and we believe that it was targeted, but we can’t — we’re not 100% sure of that, and so it’d be silly to tell people, ‘Yeah, don’t worry about it. You’re not his target.’ No, you could be,” he said in an interview that aired on TODAY March 13. Savannah told Hoda in her sit-down interview on TODAY that “we still don’t know” if her mother was targeted. “I don’t know that it’s because she’s my mom and somebody thought, ‘Oh, that girl — that lady has money. We can ... make a quick buck,’” she said. “I mean, that would make sense. But we don’t know.” But Savannah said the thought that she “brought this to her bedside” is “too much to bear.” Addressing her family, Savannah continued, “I’d just say I’m so sorry, Mommy. I’m so sorry. I’m sorry to my sister and my brother and my kids and my nephew and Tommy, my brother-in-law. I’m just — I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. If it is me, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.” The 84-year-old mother of Savannah and her two siblings was last seen on Jan. 31 and reported missing by her family on Feb. 1. On Feb. 10, the FBI released doorbell camera footage from the front of Nancy’s home on the night she disappeared that shows an armed and masked person. The individual has not been identified, but the FBI and the Guthrie family continue to ask anyone with information to call 1-800-CALL-FBI. The Guthrie family is offering a $1 million reward and the FBI, a $100,000 reward, for Nancy’s return.
