As authorities searched for answers in the immediate aftermath of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance in February, the public glare turned on her children and their spouses. Savannah Guthrie’s family members became the subjects of intense online speculation as potentially having something to do with Nancy going missing.
Savannah spoke to Hoda Kotb on TODAY March 26 in her first interview since her mother’s disappearance about how they dealt with whispers and innuendo that a family member might have been responsible for what happened to Nancy. “It’s unbearable,” Savannah said. “And it piles pain upon pain. There are no words. There are no words. I don’t understand. No one took better care of my mom than my sister and brother-in-law. And no one protected my mom more than my brother.” “And we love her, and she is our shining light,” she continued. “She’s our matriarch. She’s all we have.” Savannah has said she and her two siblings are particularly close with their mother because their father, Charles Guthrie, died when Savannah was only 16 years old. Nancy raised the three of them after his passing. Nancy’s family dropped her off at her home outside Tucson at 9:48 p.m. after a family get-together on Jan. 31, according to a timeline released by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. Nancy was reported missing the next day by Annie and her husband. The FBI then released doorbell camera images of an armed and masked man seen in front of Nancy Guthrie’s home the night she disappeared. Authorities are still trying to identify him.
