Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider
After years of stop-start development, Amazon’s Tomb Raider series had finally started to feel real. The first-look image of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft dropped back in January, filming got underway in the U.
K., and Prime Video’s take on the hugely popular video-game franchise finally seemed to be moving at full speed. That is why this latest update will catch fans’ attention. The show is still happening, but production has now hit a temporary pause. Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that filming on Tomb Raider has been briefly halted after Turner experienced what the studio described as a “minor injury.” In a statement shared with Deadline and echoed by other outlets, the studio said: “Sophie Turner recently experienced a minor injury. As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.” Reports also say the shutdown is expected to last around two weeks, with the crew continuing to be paid during the break. It is still unclear whether Turner was injured on set, and Amazon has not given any more detail than that. But the pause lands at a notable moment for the series, which Amazon MGM announced had started production on January 15. The show is being made for Prime Video with Crystal Dynamics and is filming primarily in the U.K. Related Remembering the Icons of Film — Collider Movie Quiz We pay tribute to the talents who helped define Hollywood.
