, the student, whose age was not released, was boarding her school bus from her bus stop at around 7 a.m. on January 10, 2025. Although the bus driver activated the vehicle's lights and had its yellow crossing arm and stop sign extended, Allen Pelton reportedly ignored all signals and struck the student. The victim reportedly suffered a traumatic brain injury and now requires 24-hour care and the use of a wheelchair. Pelton was arrested at the time and charged with aggravated reckless driving causing bodily harm, passing a school bus when loading and unloading, and obstructed view to the windshield of the car. The $52 million settlement was not from all of the defendants, but only Pelton, Helm Group Inc., and Civil Constructors.
