The upcoming movie will be the ninth installment in the overall franchise, including the two crossovers with the Predator franchise that were released in 2004 and 2007 respectively. Taking place between the original 1979 movie and its 1986 sequel Aliens, the movie, directed by Fede Alvarez, follows colonists who discover the predatory Xenomorph on an abandoned space station. The cast of the movie includes Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, and Isabela Merced. Screen Rant was in attendance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where they presented new footage from the upcoming Alien: Romulus. The footage kicks off with a scene where Renaux's character and a synthetic are trapped in a room with Facehuggers while Spaeny's character Rain Carradine watches helplessly. Although they escape, the Facehuggers make chase down the ship's hallway. Another clip shows a Chestburster emerging from Aileen Wu while she and Merced are on a small ship that crashes into a fuel cell when Wu thrashes and accidentally kicks the controls. Everything The CinemaCon Footage Reveals About Alien: Romulus The New Alien Movie Pushes The Franchise Further As this new footage showcases most of the cast, it offers a great deal of insight into the storyline and tone of the movie. While the Alien: Romulus trailer has already revealed some of the Facehugger chase sequence, this extended glimpse shows that Renaux's character survives the initial onslaught though he is caught in the middle of a dire situation. The fact that a synthetic helps him survive could also mean that there are trustworthy non-humans in the movie, though that is far from a guarantee in the universe of the franchise. The scene with Wu and Merced's characters in what may be an escape pod could very well contain a huge reveal for the movie as well. It seems clear that Wu's character dies in the course of the Chestburster scene, but it's unlikely that the early footage would also reveal the death of a second major character during the CinemaCon presentation. This could mean that Merced's character survives the crash, as the Chestburster is seen emerging from Wu's body afterward, showcasing the fact that survival is a possibility. Isabela Merced is a rising star with recent appearances in movies including Dora and the Lost City of Gold and Madame Web . Both of these scenes reveal that Alien: Romulus is pushing the envelope and attempting to expand the scale of the previous Alien movies. This instinct is twofold. While it increases the quantity of monsters in the scene featuring multiple Facehuggers at once, it also increases the intensity of certain iconic moments like the sequence that restages the iconic Chestburster sequence by placing the characters in a life-and-death situation before the alien even enters the equation. Alien: Romulus Alien: Romulus is the seventh film in the Alien franchise. The movie is directed by Fede Álvarez and will focus on a new young group of characters who come face to face with the terrifying Xenomorphs. Alien: Romulus is a stand-alone film and takes place in a time not yet explored in the Alien franchise.
