Nicolas Cage on the red carpet

There are action movies, and then there is Face/Off. This is the movie where Nicolas Cage and John Travolta literally swap faces and then spend the rest of the runtime trying to out-act, out-crazy, and out-movie-star each other.

It should not work nearly as well as it does, and yet it absolutely rules. Directed by John Woo, the film follows FBI agent Sean Archer and terrorist Castor Troy as their identities get surgically switched in one of the wildest premises any major studio ever approved. What follows is a full feast of melodrama, slow-motion doves, and maximum-commitment action nonsense. And the good news? Kanopy will add Face/Off for free on April 24. The cast includes Travolta as Sean Archer/Castor Troy, Cage as Castor Troy/Sean Archer, Joan Allen as Eve Archer, Alessandro Nivola as Pollux Troy, Gina Gershon as Sasha Hassler, and Dominique Swain as Jamie Archer. The film grossed over $245 million worldwide on an $80 million budget and has since become a cult classic. Its legacy rests heavily on the gloriously unhinged performances from both Cage and Travolta — each chewing scenery as both hero and villain. Posts By Macklen Makhloghi Will We Get a 'Face/Off' Sequel? Collider reported last month that Adam Wingard is no longer set to direct the follow-up to the 1997 action classic. The sequel has now been converted into an open directing assignment at Paramount Pictures, allowing filmmakers to pitch their own take, develop the project, and potentially shepherd it into production. Cage has been vocal about his interest in returning. In a previous interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub, he teased how expansive the sequel could become: “I think Face/Off is a sequel that lends itself to a lot of twists and turns and unpredictability. It's almost like if you factor in the idea of offspring and Castor and Sean having children and these children grow up, then it becomes like three-dimensional chess, and then it's not just the two, John Travolta and myself, it's four of us ping-ponging and going at different levels, and it becomes even more complex. I think there's a lot of fertile ground there.” Face/Off Like Follow Followed R Action Crime Science Fiction Release Date June 27, 1997 Runtime 139 minutes Director John Woo Writers Michael Colleary, Mike Werb Producers Barrie M.
