"When officers arrived, the suspect exited the location and began firing rounds at responding officers, at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred," the release said. After briefly retreating into a home in the area, deputies said that the suspect exited and surrendered. He was taken into custody without further incident, they said. The suspect has not yet been identified as the investigation continues.
Detectives said that the handgun they believed was used during the shooting was recovered at the scene.
"The suspect sustained a grazing gunshot wound to his upper body," deputies said. "Fire personnel transported the suspect to a local hospital, where he was treated and released. " The suspect was booked at the Covina Police Department for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. Anyone who knows more was asked to contact LASD's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
