The creator of 'Spy Kids' reportedly said Rolando's is one of his top two spots in his home city.
Two stars collided on Hildebrand Avenue on Friday: Robert Rodriguez and Rolando ’s Super Tacos . The San Antonio native and creator of ' Spy Kids ' was spotted by a fan at the lauded taco joint. A Facebook post about the encounter with the movie producer, writer and director racked up more than 3,000 likes and lots of love in the comments by early Sunday afternoon.
Poster Ruben Rojas said he was in shock when he was seated next to Rodriguez, calling him 'one of the best Latino producers till this day' and later snapping a photo together. 'All his posters are on the walls signed and he told me Rolando's is his top 2 spots in San Antonio to go to,' Rojas wrote on Facebook. Rolando’s Super Tacos No. 1, known for its oversized flour tortillas, came in fourth place on Express-News restaurant critic Mike Sutter’s Top 10 Breakfast Tacos in San Antonio and sixth on his ranking of Top 10 Puffy Tacos in San Antonio earlier this year. Rodriguez, 56, is also known for the 1992 film 'El Mariachi,' the more recent TV miniseries 'The Book of Boba Fett,' and 'The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D.' His band, Chingon, opened for a George Lopez comedy show in August. The band scored Rodriguez's films 'Machete' and 'Machete Kills.' 'Latino Royalty right there!' said one commenter. 'He was the reason I went to school and did video production classes,' another said. As for Rodriguez's other top spot in San Antonio, the original poster and another commenter confirmed he is a fan of Panchitos Mexican Restaurant on McCullough Avenue, north of Hildebrand.
