With its upcoming renewal, Sheriff Country season 2 is expected to involve a major death and reunion for its characters. The season 2 premiere date remains unknown, but it is anticipated to air in mid-October as part of the fall season.

"The first season of Sheriff Country came to an end with a finale that changed everything for Mickey , and the hit drama will soon return for season 2. Between a big death and an even bigger reunion, the stakes are higher than ever for the characters who survived season 1. Thankfully, Sheriff Country can easily stand on its own without relying on its flagship show, Fire Country, which will be a good thing in the not-too-distant future.
Sheriff Country was CBS's second spinoff for Friday nights in the 2025-2026 TV season, and it was even more of a smash success than Boston Blue was by the end of the spring. Morena Baccarin's show is a direct spinoff of Fire Country, and not just because Fire Country's Sharon Leone is Mickey's former step-sister.
Sheriff Country launched via a backdoor pilot in the original series' second season, and Baccarin then appeared in a few more season 3 episodes before her cop procedural launched during season 4. CBS has kept this TV world connected with occasional crossover appearances, and the success of Sheriff Country may be enough to launch another spinoff set in Edgewater. That's not to say that all spinoff attempts have worked for the franchise.
Supernatural vet Jared Padalecki was a candidate to lead his own show in the world of Fire and Sheriff Country, but that has yet to happen. What viewers can absolutely count on is more of Mickey and the rest of the gang in another season of Sheriff Country, despite all the twists, turns, and changes from the season 1 finale.
Sheriff Country Season 2 Has Already Been Confirmed By CBS The good news for viewers is that they won't have to wonder if another season is coming after the season 1 finale changed the course of Mickey's life in Edgewater. In fact, CBS confirmed Sheriff Country season 2's renewal in December 2025, along with a guarantee for Boston Blue season 2.
Sheriff Country was such an early success that the network renewed it after just six episodes had aired. Fire Country season 5 is happening as well to complete the full Friday lineup. Sheriff Country earning a renewal wasn't a huge surprise, as the freshman drama even beat Fire Country in the ratings. According to various CBS press releases, Sheriff Country averaged 7.6 million viewers across CBS and Paramount+ in seven days during its first five episodes.
That was a boost of 33% over S.W. A.T. , which had occupied the same time slot the previous season. Interestingly, Boston Blue was originally beating Sheriff Country in total viewers, but that changed by the end of the 2025-2026 season.
While both shows were guaranteed second seasons quite early on, Morena Baccarin's drama was on top by the end. When Will Sheriff Country Season 2 Release? Sheriff Country has not yet received a season 2 premiere date on CBS's complete 2026 schedule, and it may still be several months before the network announces when exactly to expect Mickey back in primetime.
The silver lining is that CBS has already confirmed that viewers can count on Sheriff Country returning as part of the fall season, and it's holding onto the 8 PM time slot on Fridays that was such a success in season 1. If the network goes for the same premiere window for this fall, season 2 will probably debut at some point in mid-October.
Sheriff Country will be followed by Fire Country at 9 PM and Boston Blue at 10 PM, though not for the full season. Fire Country is getting a shortened fifth season of only 13 episodes. The network hasn't confirmed what will replace Fire Country after those 13 episodes, nor whether the potential medical drama spinoff will be a candidate. Sheriff Country is expected to be back for a full season.
The first received a total order of 20 episodes. What Sheriff Country Season 2's Story Could Be Before the events of the season 1 finale, the easiest twist to predict for season 2 was that CBS would deliver another crossover between Sheriff Country and Fire Country, despite the challenges of both shows filming in separate locations in Canada. The shortened season for Fire Country now means that there's a time crunch for a potential two-parter TV event.
Following the finale, there's a lot more to go on. It's safe to say that Mickey's romance with Alec is over, and not just because the show revealed that he's a dirty cop. After a confrontation, Alec was ultimately killed by FBI Deputy Director Eva Santos. As if that wasn't dramatic enough, the finale also dropped the bombshell that Eva is actually Mickey's mom.
This will have major implications in season 2 for both Mickey and her dad, Wes, who has been roped into the mess as an undercover informant. Executive producer Matt Lopez teased how the show would pick up its storylines in season 2, telling TVLine that"There's a little bit of a time jump, and then there's a fun reveal about what happened in the moments we missed.

For fans who have been holding out hope for more sparks to fly between Mickey and Boone, Lopez went on to say that Sheriff Country season 2 is"going to continue to explore the feelings that they both have for each other," with the new layer that"now it might actually be a little more on the Mickey side.
" It certainly seems like Mickey's life will be complicated on every front. Despite losing actor Wes Chatham from the show due to Alec's death, the cast is officially expanding for the fall. Amanda Arcuri and Ian Quinlan, who recurred throughout season 1, were promoted to series regular status for Sheriff Country season 2. Expect more of Skye Fraley and Deputy Hank Iglesias starting in the fall.
