Complaints over too many events at public park spaces in Fairhope have caught the attention of the City Council . The council is looking at potential amendments to the city’s park usage ordinance which regulates the reservations of the Fairhope Beach Pavilion, Henry George Park, and South Beach Park.

Under the current ordinance, one event can be scheduled in each park each day. "Recently, some of these parks have been rented so often that our citizens really just aren't getting the use of them that we feel that they should have,” said Councilman Jack Burrell. Burrell says the council is looking into changes like putting a limit on the number of times someone can rent a space per year and changing the permit fees for each park, as some parks are larger and more popular than others. "In the case of South Beach Park. I mean, it has been several weeks a month, in fact, especially when you get into the summer months, and it is rented all weekend. There is just not a time for quiet enjoyment of a park as it should be.“There are people that are leasing the park, and then there is some subleasing it for profit, and we do not really feel like that was the intent of the parks. It really was never there to be a business. It was there for personal enjoyment.” The changes are still in the works. Burrell says the council will wait on staff recommendations before an official ordinance amendment is crafted.
