As severe weather moved into the area, York County’s Office of Emergency Management activated its Emergency Operations Center to coordinate response efforts.

As severe weather moved into the area, York County’s Office of Emergency Management activated its Emergency Operations Center to coordinate response efforts and monitor conditions in real time. Julie Wheeler, York County’s president commissioner, said staff at the center continuously track multiple sources of information.

The Emergency Operations Center brings together several divisions, including the situation section, essential support functions, public health, search and rescue, and 911 operators. It is staffed by a mix of volunteers and county employees. County officials said the operation works collaboratively with all 72 municipalities in York County to make sure they have the resources they need during severe weather. Wheeler said the goal is to ensure “all agencies and communities get real time information so we can act in a coordinated, swift and efficient effective way.” Wheeler said having the center activated means resources are gathered in one place. “The value of having this activated is everyone is here... all the resources that the team needs to address situations that may occur out in the community they’re all here all here right in the same room,” she said. “At the end of the day our priority is a safety for the 456,000 people that live in York County," Wheeler said, "So we air on caution, rather activate the emergency operation center and not need it versus not activating it."National Weather Service issues tornado watch, severe thunderstorm warning for PA countiesMiddletown woman beats ex-boyfriend with bat during argument: affidavit Lower Swatara Township police were called to a reported domestic situation Sunday evening that saw a man repeatedly beaten with a baseball bat.As south-central Pennsylvania braces for another round of gusty thunderstorms, some daycares and school districts have announced early dismissals Monday. One year after a Carlisle man died in a motorcycle crash, his family says they are still searching for answers — and justice.
