The Summit County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday the sentencing of a repeat violent abuser.
32-year-old Anthony McDonald, Jr., of Akron, was sentenced 16 to 20 years in prison for felonious assault , strangulation and multiple counts of domestic violence. One count of felonious assault , a second degree felonyOne count of strangulation, a third degree felonyIn April 2025, the Summit County Prosecutor ’s Office said Akron Police responded to a call made by a relative of the survivor.
The relative had received photos and videos of the survivor being assaulted by McDonald, and called police asking to have them check on the survivor. Officers and EMS met the survivor in a safe location and transported her to the hospital, and she was treated with numerous injuries consistent with strangulation and was struck multiple times. In May 2025, the prosecutor’s office said the survivor also disclosed further instances of abuse that was occurring since February after another relative discovered her with bruising on her body. Domestic violence cases can be especially hard to prosecute due to the private nature of the offenses and the intense emotional and psychological impact on survivors, including the understandable fear that comes with cooperating with an investigation. I want to thank the survivor for her courage; the EMTs, nurses, and doctors that provided her with medical care; and the Akron Police Department and my Assistant Prosecutors for ensuring this dangerous offender goes away for a long time.Imposters posing as law enforcement targeting Portage County residents Babysitter left child without food or water for up to 21 hours until parents came home, investigators sayPolice shoot Bellevue man who allegedly fired at officers during multi-county police chaseFalse bomb threats found in restrooms at Firelands Schools: ‘Poor and disruptive’WATCH: Tytus Howard speaks on reuniting with Deshaun Watson, the stat of the offensive and more
