The New York Yankees may or may not entertain a reunion with outfielder Harrison Bader, even if it's on the cheap.
can look a lot of different directions for help in the outfield for 2024. But would they be willing to reach back into their recent past?
As The Athletic put together its Top 40 free agents for the offseason, it linked the Yankees back to an outfielder they had last year — Harrison Bader. He was ranked No. 38.also projected that Bader would snag a one-year deal worth $8 million.Harrison Bader continues to suffer injuries year after year, but when healthy he is an above-average defender in center field and a plus base runner. This season, he slashed a dismal .232/.274/.
That pretty much says it all. Bader went to high school in The Bronx and after breaking in with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2017 he got to the Yankees in 2022 via a trade. Of course, the Yankees dealt pitcher Jordan Montgomery for him and in retrospect that looks like an awful deal for the Yankees.Bader would be a cheap option for a Yankees team that will be without Jasson Dominguez for most, if not all, of 2024 after Tommy John surgery.
A reunion could work for Bader, too. He won a Gold Glove in 2021 and finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting in 2018.
