Mendoza, 43, has coached in the Yankees organization since 2009, including the last four as Aaron Boone’s bench coach.
The Mets job became open when Buck Showalter was dismissed at the conclusion of a disappointing 2023 season and upon David Stearns taking over as president of baseball operations.. But he can stay in Milwaukee, and is also considered a very strong candidate in Cleveland and perhaps with Houston as well.He has interviewed for several other managerial openings, including the Red Sox and Tigers after the 2020 season and the White Sox after last season.
