Will the New York Mets be interested in adding a third baseman this offseason?

The approaching MLB offseason means a slew of talent is about to hit the open market. And that means speculation about where free agents may end up.

The Athletic’s Jim Bowden compiled a list of the top 40 free agents in the upcoming offseason and predicted their team fits. He lists theas a potential landing spot for a few players, but one interesting link he makes for both New York is to third basemanChapman, a defensive star, spent the last two years with the Toronto Blue Jays after playing five seasons in Oakland. The three-time Gold Glove winner has slashed .240/.320/.461 in his seven-year career.

The 30-year-old would be an particularly intriguing option for the Mets, who have internal options for a third base starter but haven’t found a solid solution. The A’s picked Chapman in the first round of the 2014 draft, and he made his major-league debut in 2017. Oakland traded him to Toronto before the 2022 season and since then he has slashed .234/.327/.429.
