The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch at 3:46 a.m. on Tuesday valid from Wednesday 4 p.m. until Friday 4 a.m. for Mercer, Venango, Forest, Clarion and Jefferson counties.

The weather service states to anticipate, "Heavy lake effect snow possible. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 9 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph."

"Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes," explains the weather service. "Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation."Winter's icy grip often turns roads treacherous, leading to over 6,000 weather-related vehicle fatalities and more than 480,000 injuries each year.
