Wednesday is the last day students in the Marysville Schools District will see their school resource officers inside buildings on a daily basis.
During a Marysville City Council meeting Monday, council member Steven Wolfe suggested moving funds around in the capital budget and committing to keeping the SROs in school buildings.
"I think there is more we can do as a council to work with them on this specific issue," Wolfe said. "I look at this as a one-time, let's fund this through the end of the school year plan." While the level of support will not be as concentrated as it was during the existence of the SRO program, we are firmly committed to moving forward together to provide a safe experience for our students and families in the Marysville community.
"The SRO program was one of the best collaborations we’ve ever done with Marysville Schools," Brooks said. "What parents need to understand now, is that there may be some different faces than they are accustomed to seeing, but there are still going to be interactions between officers and students. . Maybe not on a level of what we have had over the past couple of years on the day-to-day, but throughout the week, we are going to have a presence in and around the schools.
