Seattle Public Schools says it no longer plans to close any schools.

on Tuesday. The only item on the agenda is the superintendent will talk about finding ways to make up the deficit, he says, while meeting the needs and well-being of students. Parents worry that could mean cuts to staff, sports, or other programming. Dr. Brent Jones made the shocking announcement in a letter to SPS families, stating the existing plan was dividing the community. His proposal would close North Beach, Sacajawea, Sanislo, and Stevens elementary schools and merge them with nearby campuses.
Parents have been pushing school leaders for answers about impacts on staff, special education services, transportation, and any research showing school closure impacts student learning. District leaders have said they are still reviewing those answers.
