Also in the Cleveland Heights blotter, officers were called to an auto repair shop where a customer's car had been stolen from the lot. The car owner's mistake appeared to have led to the theft.
Cleveland Heights police investigated a home burglary in which a man woke to the sound of a voice inside his house.At 1:15 a.m. Oct. 30, police were called to the Sunoco gas station at 1905 Lee Road. There, a male clerk was relieving a female clerk when they began to argue. The male argued that the woman owed him money.The man walked away but then, a short time later, when passing the woman, he elbowed her.
The business’s owner told police that the customer left the car in the lot overnight, then called at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 24 to ask when his car would be fixed and ready for pickup. The owner could not see the car in the lot. The video, however, did not take in the entire car, so the suspect could not be seen. When asked by police, the customer said he did not have his car key on his person.
The driver, the man wanted on the warrant, gave police a false name. When the officer walked back to his cruiser, the suspect got out of the car and ran. The man’s wife woke to the sound of the home’s alarm and called 911. Both smelled the odor of cigarette smoke, but neither smokes.
