Also in the Cleveland Heights blotter, officers were called to an auto repair shop where a customer's car had been stolen from the lot. The car owner's mistake appeared to have led to the theft.

Cleveland Heights police investigated a home burglary in which a man woke to the sound of a voice inside his house. At 1:15 a.m. Oct. 30, police were called to the Sunoco gas station at 1905 Lee Road. There, a male clerk was relieving a female clerk when they began to argue.

The male argued that the woman owed him money. The man walked away but then, a short time later, when passing the woman, he elbowed her. They again argued and, this time, the man punched the woman in the face. She responded by punching the man several times in his face. The woman told police she was unsure if she wanted to pursue charges. The man declined to make a written statement and told officers to look at the surveillance video to see what happened. Police then sought to view the video. At 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24, police were called to Simon’s Automotive, 1830 Lee Road, where a customer’s car had been taken from the lot. The business’s owner told police that the customer left the car in the lot overnight, then called at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 24 to ask when his car would be fixed and ready for pickup. The owner could not see the car in the lot. The car’s owner had mistakenly left his name and cell phone in the overnight drop box, and not his car key. It is believed he may have left the key in the car. Surveillance video shows the car being started and driven away at 1:10 a.m., about six hours after the customer had dropped it off. The video, however, did not take in the entire car, so the suspect could not be seen. When asked by police, the customer said he did not have his car key on his person. The car, a Lexus L460, was found at 9:45 a.m. Oct. 27 parked and unoccupied on Coventry Road in East Cleveland. Police gathered DNA samples from the car’s interior. At 3 p.m. Oct. 24, police were alerted by a Flock street camera that a car had entered the city that was owned by a man wanted for domestic violence. An officer located the car and conducted a traffic stop at Berkeley and South Taylor roads when the car did not properly stop at a traffic signal. In the car were three men. The driver, the man wanted on the warrant, gave police a false name. When the officer walked back to his cruiser, the suspect got out of the car and ran. Officers found and detained him a short time later. Police charged him with obstructing official business. He was also cited for not wearing a seat belt, disobeying a traffic device and driving with an expired license, and arrested on the warrant. One of the other males was found to be wanted on an Adult Parole Authority warrant. He was arrested on that warrant. At 6:05 a.m. Oct. 28, a man was asleep on the second floor of his home when he heard the sound of voices. The man got up and saw a shadowy figure and called out to it. The figure was then seen running down the stairs. The man’s wife woke to the sound of the home’s alarm and called 911. Both smelled the odor of cigarette smoke, but neither smokes. On the first floor, a bookbag was found that did not belong to the couple, and outside the door, on the ground, was a cigarette butt.At 9:30 a.m. Oct. 30, a woman reported the theft of items from her husband’s unlocked 2020 Honda. The woman said she parked the car overnight in the couple’s driveway and discovered the theft the following morning. Stolen from the car were a driver’s license, three credit cards, medical insurance cards, and a Costco membership card.At 11 a.m. Oct. 30, it was reported that someone entered a man’s unlocked car, parked in his home’s driveway, and stole from its center console a ring and two earrings. The man checked with a woman who lives at the address and she said that she had not been in the man’s car. The woman then checked her unlocked car and found that a ring light and about $5 had been stolen from inside. If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.and agree that your clicks, interactions, and personal information may be collected, recorded, and/or stored by us and social media and other third-party partners in accordance with our
