The wait for The Elder Scrolls VI continues after the highly anticipated title was first announced over seven years ago in 2018. Other than a brief teaser trailer, fans have received no further looks at The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim sequel and despite Bethesda claiming that all hands are on deck for the upcoming release, the years continue to speed past.
However, according to a recent interview with Bethesda head Todd Howard, we now have a smidge more information about The Elder Scrolls VI, and this time it is related to an exciting gameplay feature. The Elder Scrolls 6 Is Going Back To The Series' Roots In an interview with Kinda Funny Games just yesterday, Howard spoke more about The Elder Scrolls VI, revealing that it would be much more of a"classic" Bethesda game as opposed to more recent titles such as Starfield and Fallout 76. Perhaps in an attempt to achieve that, the team are using Creation Engine 3, the latest version of the proprietary software that it has used to help build its RPGs since The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind in 2002. "We do have a certain style that we like and our fans like that we want to get better and better at. I think in many ways, Fallout 76 and Starfield are a little bit of a creative detour from that classic Elder Scrolls, Fallout ... where you're exploring a world in a certain way. And you know, as we come back to Elder Scrolls 6 that we're doing now, we're coming back to that kind of classic style that we've missed, that we know really really well." This Is Music To Our Ears In the interview, Howard talks more about Bethesda's use of Creation Engine 3, and how they aim to create a world where you feel as though you"are experiencing it for the first time" rather than creating a replica. As such, it was not long before fans over on r/TESVI began discussing the latest information surrounding The Elder Scrolls VI, and for once, they are feeling hopeful. "Very good news, in my opinion ," user Ubarian shared."If they play to their strengths with the base game, it will likely end up having a strong foundation, which will allow them to experiment further with updates and expansions." A fellow user agreed, adding,"I'm so hype to see it. It will be more than 10 years since we haven't had a solo Bethesda game with all the handcrafted details that glue all the world together. Back to the classic exploration we all knew and that makes their games so popular, if that's what he means!" It may not be a gameplay trailer or a release window, but it seems as though this latest The Elder Scrolls VI update is what fans needed, so let us hope that the next time Howard appears on a podcast, it is with the news we have all been waiting for. In the meantime, here are ten free games to play whilst waiting for the next Bethesda RPG.
