The wait for a confirmation on It: Welcome to Derry’s second season continues, and it’s now more frustrating after HBO’s recent release formula. HBO is well-known for the high quality of its TV shows, with many of them now ranking among the best TV shows of all time, and it continues to produce great content.
One of its best recent hits is It: Welcome to Derry, a prequel to Andy Muschietti’s It movies. Welcome to Derry takes the audience back to 1962 to follow a different group of kids haunted by the evil shapeshifting creature known as “It.” Meanwhile, the military is searching for It’s lair as they have disturbing plans that involve this creature. Welcome to Derry was a big success with critics and general audiences, and given the richness of the world of It, there’s a lot of anticipation around a potential second season, which, hopefully, will be officially announced soon. HBO Hasn't Officially Renewed It: Welcome To Derry For Season 2 Despite its success, It: Welcome to Derry hasn’t been officially renewed for season 2 yet. However, it was reported in January 2026 that HBO is already working on the second season of Welcome to Derry, but, for some reason, it hasn’t released an official announcement yet. Muschietti has opened up about the plans he and the rest of the production team have for more seasons of Welcome to Derry, and they are pretty exciting. The idea is for every season of Welcome to Derry to go 27 years back in time, thus exploring the different awakenings and murder sprees of Pennywise . Season 1 of Welcome to Derry showed that there’s a lot to explore about Derry’s past and It’s presence, as well as how this has affected generations of Derry residents. If all goes well, Welcome to Derry could go as far back as to show It’s arrival in town and its first murders. A Delayed Renewal Means It: Welcome To Derry Season 2 Isn't Coming Anytime Soon Welcome to Derry’s season 2 might be in development as we speak, but that isn’t exactly encouraging news when it comes to how soon it will be released. The update on the development of Welcome to Derry season 2 doesn’t reveal much on how far into pre-production it really is. The original report notes that, while season 2 is in the works, the show hasn’t been officially renewed, and it’s unclear when that announcement might finally arrive. This, of course, means that Welcome to Derry season 2 won’t arrive as soon as many would like, and there might be a long wait ahead. It: Welcome To Derry Breaks HBO's Praised Release Strategy For Other Shows While Welcome to Derry waits for an official renewal, HBO is being praised for its release strategy for other shows, which, of course, isn’t being applied to Pennywise’s show. HBO shows like The Pitt and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are going for yearly releases, while others, like House of the Dragon, get quickly renewed and have seasons already mapped out.
