An 81-year-old Texas man was kidnapped and murdered in Reynosa, Mexico, while paying real estate taxes. The incident highlights the ongoing violence and cartel activity in the border city.
A group of gunmen kidnapped and killed an 81-year-old Texas man who had crossed into the Mexican border city of Reynosa to pay real estate taxes. Jose De La Luz Martinez Ramirez, from Mission, Texas , was leaving the Reynosa City Hall last Thursday and walking to a public parking lot where he had left his truck when two gunmen ambushed him, taking both him and his vehicle.
Hours later, the gunmen discarded his cellphone in one neighborhood and abandoned his truck in another on the western side of the city. It wasn't until Saturday afternoon that authorities found Martinez's body near an irrigation canal near the Anzalduas International Bridge. Tamaulipas state investigators are pursuing at least two gunmen for their involvement in the kidnapping. However, law enforcement sources have revealed to Breitbart News Foundation that they are also investigating other individuals who may have tipped off the gunmen or directed them to target Martinez. The kidnapping occurred during a period of heightened violence in Reynosa, as the Gulf Cartel continues to operate with near-impunity despite assurances from government officials. The city has become a focal point in a fierce turf war between rival factions of the Gulf Cartel, leading to escalating violence. The cartel has resorted to using not only high-powered firearms and armored vehicles but also improvised explosive devices, land mines, and even commercial drones to drop explosives. This indiscriminate use of explosives has already claimed the lives of several innocent civilians, including a Texas man from Brownsville.
