Bastrop police have identified a suspect accused of opening fire in a Home Depot parking lot Wednesday afternoon, an incident that prompted a large law enforcement response but left no reported injuries.
According to the Bastrop Police Department, officers responded around 3:49 p.m. to the 100 block of Hunters Crossing Boulevard following reports of an active shooter. Deputies from the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies also responded. Police Chief said preliminary information indicates the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Kobe Lee Mosser, drove into the parking lot and began firing an AR-15-style rifle "indiscriminately." At one point, Mosser exited his vehicle and continued shooting, officials said. Investigators believe multiple vehicles were struck, though the full extent of property damage — including possible impacts to families in the area — remains under investigation. Officer James Hill was the first to arrive on the scene and immediately took Mosser into custody without incident, according to Bastrop police. A victim services liaison was also present during the response.“I had a buddy that was there, and he said people were screaming, people were running, and it was chaos,” said Cody Wilkinson, who had been shopping at the store earlier in the day.“It’s scary ’cause I’ll be an expecting dad soon. So to bring a son into this, man, it’s just like anything could happen at any moment,” he said. Jesus Mondragon, who works at the store, said the situation reflects a growing concern about public safety. “It’s crazy to think because I was just thinking about it the other day about how anybody could really just walk up in there and start shooting,” Mondragon said. “No injuries have been reported,” the police chief said, adding that authorities are “extremely thankful” no one was hurt despite the seriousness of the incident. Investigators are still working to determine the full extent of property damage and how many people were affected, including reports involving families with children. “Thankfully, everybody’s safe,” Mondragon said. “I think I was lucky not to be here, you know, ’cause it could happen to me anytime.”Officials said there are no additional suspects and no ongoing threat to the public. In a statement, the police chief thanked Officer Hill and assisting agencies for their response, calling it “rapid, coordinated, and professional.”The investigation remains active, and anyone who was in the area or has information is asked to contact Bastrop police.Controversy is growing around Austin ISD’s Pride Week, set for this week, as the State Board of Education calls on the district to get rid of the themed week alA man was arrested after he allegedly shot an AR-15 at other vehicles in a Home Depot parking lot in Bastrop Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
