CANTON, Ohio - The Stark County Dog Warden issued a Critical Capacity Alert as it is in urgent need of adoptions and redemptions. “Our shelter is bursting at the seams,” the Stark County Sheriff’s Office stated on Halloween.
“Our small team and dedicated volunteers are doing everything they can to care for our dogs, but we’re stretched to our limits.”“If you know your dog is here PLEASE COME!!” SCDW urged. “We will work with you to get them home.” The shelter, located at 1801 Mahoning Road NE in Canton, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and Sunday by appointment.“If you’re looking for a loyal companion—or know someone who is—please adopt from us!" SCSO said. “Remember, every adoption saves a life and makes room for us to save another.”“We have dogs of all ages, sizes, and breeds,” SCSO stated. Each one has a unique story, but they all share one thing: They deserve a loving home!" The dog warden said they have no history on stray dogs, so bring your family and pets to meet who you’re hoping to adopt to be sure they are a good fit! Potential adopters also need to prepare to crate your new pet for the ride home, as the dog warden does not allow newly adopted dogs to ride in the car “without being properly separated from their new friends.” “Decompression and patience are the keys to success when adopting a shelter dog,” the dog warden shared.The adoption fee is waived for adult dogs with the purchase of a lifetime license. If you aren’t able to adopt at this time, but would like to help those who are in the pound, become a volunteer!“With such busy schedules these days, many people do not have the extra time to volunteer with our organization; yet, they do have the desire to see the homeless dogs at the Dog Warden shelter receive the basic care, comfort, and medical attention that they deserve,” the Friends of Stark Pound shared.“A full 100% of your financial contribution to Friends of Stark Pound will help advance our mission of creating a nurturing, positive environment for all of the homeless puppies and dogs at the Stark County Dog pound while we seek their forever homes,” the Friends of Stark Pound ensured.
