CONCEPT ART OF HULK BY Ryan Meinerding, Marvel Studios' head of visual development
The Incredible Hulk is known for being borderline indestructible, tanking the most impressive powers Marvel has to offer. However, there are some rare abilities that have brought the Green Goliath to his knees, and they're not what fans might expect.
5 Invisible Woman's Force Field Generation As Seen in Fantastic Four #166 by Roy Thomas, George Perez, Vince Colletta, Phil Rachelson and Joe Rosen Hulk has been fighting the Fantastic Four since 1963's Fantastic Four #12, but only the Invisible Woman is a real challenge to him. Susan Storm is able to use her powerful force fields to cut off the Hulk's air supply, weakening him and - after long enough - causing him to collapse. Cutting off Hulk's air is one of his only physical weaknesses - one that's been used against him by everyone from Batman to Thor. The Dark Knight beat Hulk by forcing him to inhale knockout gas, while - in Avengers: Twilight - Thor outright killed Hulk by using Mjolnir to trap him underwater, drowning him. However, Invisible Woman is the ultimate practitioner of this trick. Susan Storm's force fields are unbelievably strong, and can even injure Celestials, making it possible for her to suffocate Hulk before he breaks free. 4 Havok's Plasma Generation As Seen in Incredible Hulk #150 by Archie Goodwin, Herb Trimpe, John Severin and Sam Rosen While X-Men's Cyclops converts sunlight into kinetic energy, his brother turns it into raw, superhearted plasma. When Alex Summers clashed with the Hulk, his beams of energy were powerful enough to defeat the Jade Giant, forcing him to collapse and revert to Bruce Banner. Havok's powers were so successful because he was able to aim them directly at Hulk's brain, phasing through skin and bone to attack his mind directly. 3 Hyperion's Heat Vision As Seen in Heroes Reborn #2 by Jason Aaron, Dale Keown, Ed McGuinness, Scott Hanna, Carlos Magno, Edgar Delgado and Cory Petit Marvel's 'evil Superman' has fought Hulk a few times, and even managed to punch the Jade Giant so hard, he transformed back into Bruce Banner. However, their most horrific fight happened in Heroes Reborn, when reality was rewritten to replace the Avengers with Hyperion's Squadron Supreme. In the second issue of the event, Hyperion melted Hulk, killing him outright with heat. This was at a time when Hulk's healing factor and resurrection were at their strongest, with Hyperion killing Hulk twenty-four times before he ran out of energy to draw on and finally stayed dead. 2 Red Hulk's Energy Absorption As Seen in Hulk #11 by Jeph Loeb, Ed McGuinness, Dexter Vines, Guru-eFX and Comicraft Red Hulk was designed to be the ultimate threat to the Hulk. He may not be stronger, but Thunderbolt Ross' Hulk is definitely smarter, giving him a tactical edge in battle. However, Red Hulk's most dangerous ability is the power to absorb different forms of energy - everything from Hulk's gamma radiation to Silver Surfer's power cosmic. By draining Hulk's gamma, Red Hulk can sap his strength and render him far more vulnerable. Red Hulk was even able to kill the Hulk when the cosmic being known as the Grandmaster pitted them against each other. Sadly for Ross, Grandmaster resurrected Bruce Banner once the contest was over. 1 Squirrel Girl's Squirrel Control As Seen in Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Beats Up the Marvel Universe by Ryan North, Erica Henderson, Tom Fowler, Erica Henderson, Rico Renzi and Travis Lanham Beating the Hulk doesn't have to mean killing him, as an evil duplicate of Squirrel Girl proved when she began picking off the Avengers. The evil Squirrel Girl used her control over squirrels to direct furry friends to the Hulk, calming his rage to the point that he transformed back into Bruce Banner and became vulnerable. Other heroes who have used this tactic include Dazzler and SHIELD's Maria Hill, who airdropped puppies onto the Green Goliath. As funny as these occasions have been, they're a valid way to beat the Hulk, cutting his strength off at its source: his rage. Those are the five rare superpowers that beat the Hulk - let us know in the comments below which other powers should appear on this list. Hulk Created By Stan Lee, Jack Kirby First Appearance The Incredible Hulk Alias Robert Bruce Banner Alliance Avengers, Defenders, Horsemen of Apocalypse, Fantastic Four, Pantheon, Warbound, S.M.A.S.H., Secret Avengers Franchise Marvel
