Seattle police officers are investigating a burglary that turned into a shooting at a business Friday morning.

An armed burglary turned into a shooting after a businessman shot the intruder in self-defense on July 19, 2024.

According to SPD, around 2:05 a.m. officers responded to the 4200 block of Rainier Avenue S after reports of a burglary. A man broke into a business, and he was confronted by an armed businessman who was asleep inside when the break-in occurred. Police said the suspect was armed with a knife and the businessman shot him in self-defense.

The suspect’s hand was seriously injured. He left a blood trail while fleeing the area. Authorities located the man near Rainier Avenue S and South Andover Street. They treated him for his gunshot wound before he was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. The man is currently under arrest for burglary, police said. The businessman has been cooperating with detectives from the General Investigations Unit.
