Seattle Fire Department crews battled a vacant building fire Friday in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood.
More than 70 Seattle firefighters battled a vacant building fire in the Eastlake neighborhood on July 5, 2024.
Seattle fire’s alarm center received calls around 12:53 a.m. about smoke and flames coming from a vacant commercial building in the 2900 block of Eastlake Avenue E. The building was once Eastlake Bar and Grill. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they reported that flames were coming from the roof of the building. Seattle fire said they upgraded their response to a 2-alarm fire. More than 70 individuals were dispatched to help control the flames.
According to Seattle fire, the heavy smoke and flames coming through the roof “created unsafe conditions for crews to enter.” As a result, they went into a defensive position pouring water onto the fire from a safe distance. At around 2 a.m. the roof of the building began to collapse. An “Alert Seattle” message was sent to nearby residents to encourage them to keep their windows and doors closed.Fire agencies across the west Washington region have responded to numerous calls related to fireworks.Authorities said that the spent fireworks were not properly soaked which caused the fire.because they are extremely flammable.
