Despite a recent expansion, the brewery couldn't keep up with rising costs and plummeting sales.
Award-winning brewery Second Pitch Beer Company is shutting its doors Saturday after three years on San Antonio’s North Side. The craft brewery announced this week that Saturday would be its final day in business, just four months after adding an expansion to the building. Owners Jim and Samantha Hansen opened the spot in 2020 on Starcrest Drive, quickly becoming a popular local hangout to drink a pint alongside games of “singo” and trivia.
Customers and local breweries came out in droves to send messages of support after the sudden closure announcement on Thursday. “Second Pitch has been an inspiration in the craft beer community,” Breakaway Brewing Company wrote on Facebook. The brewery earned a gold medal for its Hometown Lager at the Great American Beer Festival last year and also boasts awards from the World Beer Cup and U.S. Open Beer Championship.
