A road rage report prompted a response from Draper police after a victim reported hearing what they believed was a gunshot. The victim who called police reported being followed and threatened by someone in a truck.
The suspect allegedly drove aggressively, attempted to hit the victim’s vehicle and yelled at them after pulling alongside. According to the Draper Police Department, while the victim tried to escape and called 911, they heard what they believed was a gunshot.Shots fired after road rage incident on Bangerter Highway in Salt Lake Police said a second victim reported being cut off by two vehicles near 300 East and 12300 South. The situation quickly turned violent when the driver of a truck exited his vehicle, pulled out a gun and fired one shot at their car, according to the second victim. One passenger initially believed she had been shot, while another person in the vehicle suffered minor injuries. The group fled the scene and went to a nearby friend’s house, where officers later met with them. Investigators observed a bullet hole in the victims’ vehicle, according to Draper police. A short time later, a Draper police officer located a truck matching the suspect’s description on Minuteman Drive. Officers took the suspect into custody without further incident. Police said a search warrant was executed on the vehicle, where two handguns were found. The suspect, identified as John Edward Orvis, was booked into jail on charges including felony discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a restricted person. “We are very fortunate that no one was seriously injured in this road rage incident. Road rage incidents are becoming more frequent in our communities, and we commend both victims for calling 911 to report the incidents, which led to a police response, investigation and subsequent arrest of a violent suspect.
