The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has charged a Renton man with sex crimes that detectives believe happened in south King County and north Pierce County spanning nearly a decade.Forty-nine-year-old Kevin McFarland was arrested at a home in Renton on Sunday morning and faces multiple charges including dealing in depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, communicating with a minor for immoral purposes, and sexual exploitation of a child.
Investigators say a cyber tip sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted them to McFarland in November.'Detectives believe his actions may have gone back as far as 2016 where he was contacting, potentially, women and children trying to videotape them and engaging in all sorts of lewd behavior,' said Captain Tim Meyer of the King County Sheriff's Office.A first appearance document reveals McFarland was a registered sex offender up until 2023 and had multiple sex offense convictions for indecent exposure and second-degree rape of a child.The document details videos that show McFarland approaching women and underage girls while in a car, asking for directions and then asking them to 'help with a dare.'In one video, a girl who admits she is a minor agrees to let McFarland smell her foot.McFarland is bald with distinct tattoos on his arm and wrist, and investigators believe McFarland's tattoos appear in videos with minors.The King County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have been victimized by McFarland to reach out to their office.'Every case matters, especially when it involves some of the most vulnerable members of our community,' said Captain Meyer.
