The USL announced on Thursday that they can confirm plans to launch a U.S. Soccer-sanctioned Division One men’s professional league in 2027, which would directly rival the MLS.
DOTHAN, Ala. - The United Soccer League is growing like never before and the league has made it abundantly clear that they are far from done doing so. In fact, they are getting ready to challenge Major League Soccer and plant their flag as the premier option for American fans of the “Beautiful Game.”that they can confirm plans to launch a U.S.
If approved by the U.S. Soccer Federation, the newly announced top-tier league by the USL would create the widest direct pipeline of sanctioned leagues under one governing body in the history of American soccer.Having that sort of pipeline also opens the door to something that many fans in the country have long been asking for, and that is a normal part of other global soccer leagues: a promotion and relegation system.
The growth of the USL impacts many of its clubs, both professional and pre-pro, and that includes one team stationed in the heart of the Wiregrass. “I think many fans in the United States have been dying for a promotion and relegation system where you can be in a lower-level league, win a championship, and escalate to the next level of competition above you,” Donner said. “This announcement will have us work to accelerate our efforts to try to get into the next level league that would allow us to compete for promotion in the future.”
“It really ties into our dream here in Dothan, and it makes the incentive and ability to dream about growing even more real, and possibly even quicker.”
