Audiences aren't really given much time these days to watch shows at their leisure, because streamers tend to release major new titles every week. For instance, Netflix's genre audience has more than one show to choose from this week alone — the horror limited series Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen and the neo-noir mystery series Jø Nesbo's Detective Hole.
Over on Prime Video, audiences had only a week to watch Guy Ritchie's new show before they were served Scarpetta, headlined by Nicole Kidman and based on the bestselling book series by Patricia Cornwell. Each of these titles is doing very well on the viewership charts, but there is a close battle unfolding between Ritchie's and Kidman's new shows. While Scarpetta replaced Ritchie's Young Sherlock at the top spot after its release, it has now been overtaken. Young Sherlock has reclaimed its lead over Scarpetta around a month into its run, as it cements itself at the number two spot behind the adult animated series Invincible. Young Sherlock is the third series that Ritchie has executive-produced in the last few years, after Netflix's The Gentlemen and Paramount+'s MobLand. It's not like he has slowed down on the feature front either; he has three movies lined up for theatrical release — In the Grey, Wife & Dog, and Viva La Madness. He also has second seasons of both MobLand and The Gentlemen in the works. Related Remembering the Icons of Film — Collider Movie Quiz We pay tribute to the talents who helped define Hollywood. Posts By Macklen Makhloghi 'Young Sherlock' Makes Up for the Lack of 'Sherlock Holmes 3' Young Sherlock isn't Ritchie's first tryst with Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic character. He famously directed two big-budget studio movies starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, which grossed a combined total of around $1 billion worldwide. A third installment has been stuck in development hell. Young Sherlock traces the character's origins during his time as a university student, and stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the titular role. The eight-episode series holds a"Certified Fresh" 84% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics' consensus reads,"Young Sherlock doesn't aim to recreate Conan Doyle's work, rather, it takes pride in its liberal adaptation, delivering Guy Ritchie's signature blend of precise entertainment, sly style, and ingratiating characters." Young Sherlock serves as a neat companion piece to Netflix's Enola Holmes film series, which will return with a third installment soon.
