J.D. Vance led U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan by a razor thin margin of 47.4% to 45.4% after trailing in a previous Suffolk poll.
Vance continued to dominate with Ohioans who are concerned about the economy and inflation, which remains the most important issue for voters in this election cycle, according to the poll. Roughly two-thirds of those who said the economy is top of mind plan to vote for Vance. Like other Republicans, Vance has pinned inflation woes on the leadership of President Joe Biden.
Ryan, meanwhile, is overwhelming popular among voters concerned about abortion. The congressman has supported legislation that would codify Roe v. Wade and protect the rights of patients to travel out-of-state for abortions. The congressman maintained a slight edge with independents, a group he's been targeting throughout the race as he attempts to distance himself from Biden and other top Democrats. Twenty-two percent of voters who plan to vote for Republican Gov. Mike DeWine said they would back Ryan in the Senate race.
