That was the message retired U.S. Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer 4 Lelia Jackson brought to members of the Fort Rucker/Novosel at the recent dinner meeting held at The Landing on Fort Novosel. On behalf of the MOAA National Headquarters, Jackson outlined issues that will be emphasized and focused on during this new year. People are also reading… About the Fort Rucker/Novosel ChapterThe Fort Rucker/Novosel chapter, established in 1959, is one of 11 MOAA chapters in the state with membership that includes surviving spouses of military officers. The Wiregrass chapter meets at The Landing on Fort Novosel during February, April, June, August, October and December. The next meeting is a dinner on April 19 at 6 p.m. at The Landing. Randy Godfrey of Enterprise is President. Tom Day of Dothan is the Vice President. Carolyn Wooley of Ozark is the Secretary. The newsletter editor is Frank Estes of Ozark. Dennis Newton of Ozark is the chapter chaplain and webmaster. “Our chapter continues serving the Wiregrass through the activities and efforts of all our members,” Godrey said in a message to members. In December the chapter teams with other local service organizations to assist with Christmas wreath laying for over 1500 veteran graves at the Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Enterprise. Also in December, the chapter donated $1,000 to the Fort Novosel Holiday food Assistance Program, an Army Community Services program that benefits junior soldiers and their families. Godfrey said local MOAA representatives attend each Warrant Officer Candidate School class graduation ceremony held at Fort Novosel. “As part of the graduation ceremonies, we provide the MOAA Awards to the Distinguished Honor Graduate and Leadership Awardee with signed MOAA certificates, a $100 check each, and a three-year premium membership to MOAA. The local MOAA chapter coordinates with five sponsored local JROTC High Schools for the MOAA JROTC medal presentations. The chapter also coordinates with the Troy University Army and Air Force ROTC programs for the MOAA ROTC awards and lieutenant commissioning events.
