In early October 2024, owner Drew Glick hopes to open Melvin's — which will serve up ice cream, baked goods and espresso — next door.
Max and Louie 's New York Diner is getting ready to grow with the addition of Melvin 's, a homemade ice cream, bakery and espresso shop in one. The North Side restaurant is taking over a storefront next door to open Melvin 's, which will be an adjoined expansion of the diner, owner Drew Glick announced Monday on podcast ' The More You Know , The Better It Tastes .
' Related: Max & Louie’s makes great Reuben and deli sandwiches worth a drive Melvin's, named after Glick's father, will keep the spirit of Max and Louie's going with a vintage feel and dedication to hospitality. Plans are still in the early stages, but Glick hopes to open Melvin's in early October, he said on the podcast episode. 'It's gonna be really cool and fun, and it'll have a lot of the similar atmosphere and hospitality flavor that Max and Louie's has,' Glick said. There's no word on a menu yet, but Glick hinted that customers can look forward to ice cream sandwiches crafted with Max and Louie cookies. Donuts have also crossed his mind, he said during the podcast. Expanding into the new space will give Max and Louie's some elbow room for its in-house bakery, which makes about 1,500 loaves of challah every week. Max and Louie's brought authentic New York diner fare to San Antonio in 2016 at 226 W. Bitters Road.
