Red Editor-in-Chief Sarah Tomczak has handpicked her favourite new spring pieces from high-street hero M&S – shop them before they sell out.
It’s official. Marks Spencer has hit the ground running when it comes to spring fashion. Hot on the heels of my edit of their best denim, this is my round-up of the best of their new-in pieces. The great thing about MS is that there’s always a nod to a trend, but the pieces remain fairly timeless.
Look for small details - like the statement buttons on this slim fit cardigan, ditto this puff sleeve top. While the shapes are flattering and the colours classic, these are elements that bring a fresh update to your wardrobe. On the subject of updates, I am such a fan of a pleated trouser, which feels effortless and mannishly tailored. I love wearing trousers like the chinos or cropped palazzos below with a white canvas tennis shoe, or a leather slider, so you can show a bit of bare ankle, but you could also throw on a pair of strappy heels and a more elevated camisole and they instantly bring a relaxed elegance to an evening outfit. In the spirit of do-anything clothes, the textured jeans here are a really smart buy because they’re denim, but feel way more special than your basic pair. They’ll really work with anything because they’re so neutral, but I do like them with a white shirt, for a crispness that plays on texture.MS have a particularly strong shoe offering right now and this is another great way to update your wardrobe. Pair your regular jeans and cashmere jumper with these pink woven Mary Janes . Equally these satin ballet flats are so easy to wear but chic, chic, chic. I find evening shoes harder to purchase because the balance between dressy/comfortable is tricky to nail, but the buckle stiletto heels below are currently in my basket.Finally, as we are talking accessories, there are a few things in the new collection that really stood out to me - this straw shoulder bag, elevated by its hardware, a great go-with-everything belt for some extra polish, and this dreamy pearl clutch bag, which is the perfect addition to a pared-back evening look . It’s just what you need with a simple black dress, but I also love how it would bring something special to jeans and a white shirt.
