Washington and her producing partner Pilar Savone, executive vice president of production and development at Simpson Street, closed out the event with a panel on how their partnership shapes the content they produce.“The uniqueness is what allows us to create stories about worlds and people we've never seen before, but what makes us the same is what really hooks us as an audience,” Washington said. Simpson Street, named after the street Washington’s mother grew up on in the South Bronx, has produced projects includingWhen evaluating new projects, Savone said she and Washington “start with each other,” asking whether a story feels right and is something they want to live with long term.Washington said the pair doesn’t always agree, but their ability to work through ideas helps them find their “true north.” “Given the shrinking of the business, we’ve become smarter and more strategic,” she said. “But we’re committed to our artistic integrity.”
