Rae cited concerns about Trump's influence on the institution's values, stating that she believes it no longer faithfully celebrates artists of all backgrounds. Her decision comes amid a wave of resignations from artists and cultural figures who oppose Trump's leadership.

Unfortunately, due to what I believe to be an infringement on the values of an institution that has faithfully celebrated artists of all backgrounds through all mediums, I've decided to cancel my appearance at this venue. All tickets will be refunded. Thank you so much for understanding and I hope to see you soon. Love, Issa.
This new board also terminated the president of the venue, Deborah F. Rutter, and made Richard Grenell, who was the ambassador to Germany during the first Trump administration, the interim president.
